Sweet corn is 6 feet tall

This year we have grown more corn owing to last season’s very nice crop. If anything, do what you do best.We planted Bodacious. It is a super sweet corn that was a hit last year. This year we have a 50′ x 50′ patch. A full 1/4 of the garden.

I really like this crop. It is harvested quickly. Two or three pickings and it is done. It is very perishable, though, and quick delivery and consumption is the key to good quality. In our case we have several clients, who can take every cob we can deliver. This year the timing will be awkward.

This year the harvest will begin on July 4th weekend. It is ready about 20 days after it begins to produce silk on the ears which happened June 12th.

In this picture some of the corn is still silking 10 days after silking began. This will probably prolong the harvest as these ears will need the same 20 days to mature. The luster on the silk fades quickly.
