Peas and New Potatoes are nearly ready

Ah, in the face of real hardship south of here (Moore and Edmond tornado damage), the peas and potatoes are nearly ready for harvest. The peas have attached nicely to the trellis and are blooming. As I recall sweet peas take about a week or two to grow. eeeee! Looks like sweet success.

Rain is keeping us out of the garden the last 10 days. I’ve shut off the irrigation system that I just knew was needed for drought. I guess I am OK with this, just a bit disoriented with all this rain. For the last few years if you wanted something to grow and mature it had to be watered. Now we are having a normal spring and it feels foreign somehow. I just need to take a deep breath and be patient.

Foreground are 4 rows of potatoes. The first will be dug early as new potatoes.

In these pictures the soil looks so red! Out in the garden the soil looks dark and rich. I have been an Okie too long and filter out the red clay in the soil. But the camera does not lie.

This pic is of the potatoes (bottom) then 4 rows of tomatoes on spiral stakes. You can barely see them in this picture. They are still getting established and building roots (I hope). The peas are behind the tomatoes.
